Rob Joseph, Bsc (ex Sci), CAT(C), MOTD

Performance Therapy developed over many years of evaluating and treating elite and professional athletes in a multitude of sports.  Originally working with Concordia University Rugby, Basketball and Ski teams, and professional teams like the Montreal Allouettes Football and Roadrunners Rollerhockey and finally Cirque du Soleil in Montreal.

I moved to Vancouver to learn about orthopedic bracing and become a certified pedorthic technician (foot orthotics), but ultimately returned to doing sport therapy for golf and tennis performance for elite players in Vancouver, and expanded into elite hockey and soccer in BC.  I also took the principles that I learned in performance sport therapy applying them to older athletes and active weekend warriors to help improve their performance!

Eventually this lead to working with Industrial Athletes, delivering movement education and injury prevention for all types of trades and office workers in remote areas of BC and AB.  Just to say we have experience with professionals and amateurs at work and sport, and we can help you get rid of those aches and pains, improve your ability to move, and increase your level of performance!

At Performance Therapy we strive to empower our clients through education and information.  We build confidence and credibility with our clients by:

                                  1. Communicating our findings in non-medical jargon, so you can understand what’s going on.
                                  2. Simplifying your exercise program to address your primary dysfunction(s) within the time commitment that works for you.  You will also get email with PDFs so you can remember your exercises and do them correctly!
                                  3. Demonstrating improvements on the spot!  We’ll show you how you are improving, not just tell you that “you are getting better”.

Manual Osteopathy

Osteopathy and Manual Osteopathic Therapy use hands-on skills for investigation and treatment of body dysfunctions. The whole body is examined and when mechanical disruptions and imbalances are found, they are gently treated with techniques that engage the dysfunctional tissue until function is normalized.

This is achieved using treatment modalities involving General Osteopathic Technique, Muscle Energy for specific osteo-articulation dysfunctions, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral, Lymphatic Drainage,  and Visceral Manipulation techniques.

The goal of Manual Osteopathy is to restore proper function and balance to the body allowing it to heal through its own natural processes.  It guides the body to balance your nervous system, your circulatory and lymphatic systems all while improving your joint range of motion and relieving pain, discomfort, and other symptoms.

athletic therapy

Certified Athletic Therapists are best known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries of all Canadians, whether on the field or in the clinic.

Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist's goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.

DECREASE YOUR ACCIDENT RISK AT WORK BY LEARNING SAFE MOVEMENT

Industrial workplaces have an increased inherent danger. Learn to mitigate that danger through proper movement and postural techniques that help to minimize personal injury with our industrial ergonomics assessments and services. A physical lifestyle, including a physical job, should be healthy for your body. A sedentary job that is regularly interrupted with movement can keep your body healthy and resilient. Unfortunately, proper positioning and movement skills are not taught, trained, or coached in most workplaces. As a result, high-risk habits can go unrecognized and uncorrected, leading to unnecessary discomfort, pain and eventually - injury. Our ErgoMove Program® provides your organization with the knowledge, skills, and leadership training necessary to improve movement safety. The goal is to reduce preventable soft tissue injuries through a shift in your safety culture towards healthy posture and movement habits. That's where the ErgoMove® can help!
